Work on Paper (2020)
Works on Paper is a video documenting the process of installing, covering up, and putting down of the show of the same name in Providence, RI in 2020. The video, as well as the show, layers images up to the point of obscurity at first, then veils them with tasteful simplicity, and finally concludes with a complete tear down of the show, which all happens over the course of two weeks in the exhibition space. For this project, the artist used his repertoire of works that he had made over the last year, most of which were on paper. This project was concerned with the then recent, and contested, rise of historical amnesia and the selective covering up of history and art in the public sphere in mainstream Turkish politics.
